Fascinating Facts You Should Know About
Devotion To Mary And Marian Apologetics
Devotion To Mary And Marian Apologetics
Dear Friend in Christ,
The Church calls Mary the “Cause of our joy”. And you’ll begin to feel really good when you apply St. Robert’s teaching and example to your own life, because Blessed Pope Pius IX stated: “God has committed to Mary the treasury of all good things, in order that everyone may know that through her are obtained every hope, every grace, and all salvation. For this is His will, that we obtain everything through Mary.” It was the Jesuit Father James Broderick’s 2-volume biography of St. Robert Bellarmine that was inspiration for this translation of St. Robert’s Marian writings. Because in that biography, I discovered two things about St. Robert: |
(1) that in the process of his beatification and canonization, the Church concluded that he had never committed a deliberate venial sin; and, (2) when Pope Clement VIII named St. Robert a cardinal, he said…
“The Church of God has not his equal in learning.”
And this collection of his Marian writings doesn’t disappoint.
As extensive as Fr. Broderick’s biography of St. Robert was, I was still able to unearth some biographical material of him which had never been translated. It was all focused solely on how he lived his devotion to Mary. They’re from the “Summa Aurea de Laudibus Virginis Mariae”. This is only place you’ll find this biographical material in English.
And St. Robert shows you precisely “how to learn from the example of Mary.”

St. Peter tells us: “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope” (1 Pt. 3:15).
St. Robert gives you those explanations.
What’s most impressive is that he defended Marian dogmas, such as the Immaculate Conception and Assumption, centuries before the Church formally defined them.
He brilliantly defends Our Lady’s Perpetual Virginity, as well as her other privileges.
You’ll love his defense of the Salve Regina (Hail Holy Queen). Whereas St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote about it from a devotional point of view, St. Robert discusses it from an apologetics point of view.
This collection also includes his Marian sermons and sermon fragments.

Listen to me when I tell you that living devotion to Mary the way St. Robert teaches is powerful at a level you cannot comprehend.
Pope St. Pius X emphasized in the Encyclical Ad diem illum:
“Hence nobody ever knew Christ so profoundly as she did, and nobody can ever be more competent as a guide and teacher of the knowledge of Christ.
“Hence it follows, as We have already pointed out, that the Virgin is more powerful than all others as a means for uniting mankind with Christ.”
Again, Bl. Pope Pius IX pointed out that through Mary “are obtained every hope, every grace, and all salvation. For this is His will, that we obtain everything through Mary.”
And again, St. Robert lived in such union with the Blessed Mother that she obtained for him the grace never to commit a deliberate venial sin.”
Jesus said…
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Mt. 5:8).
It’s going to be exciting to learn Marian devotion and Marian apologetics from someone who lived so close to Mary, don’t you agree?
Imagine what that’ll do for your own spiritual life.
St. Ignatius of Loyola said…
“Most people have no idea what God would make of them if they would only place themselves at his disposal.”
St. Robert will help you there.
